Course Offerings

The Harmonic training department has created a learning environment designed to give you the best possible experience. Our training lab includes the latest Harmonic hardware and software. The training is a combination of lecture and hands-on experience giving you the knowledge you need to design, operate, and maintain your Harmonic digital television system.

COURSE: NSG 9000 Operations View Class Description
OBJECTIVES: At the completion of this course, students will be able to configure, operate, monitor and troubleshoot the NSG.


PREREQUISITES: A basic knowledge of the following subjects is recommended:
  • Ethernet
  • TCP-UDP/IP
  • MPEG-2/4
  • Computer Applications/Operations
  • Video Compression Systems
  • VOD System Applications


COURSE: On-Demand, Single Node Cluster View Class Description
OBJECTIVES: At the completion of this course, students will be able to monitor, operate, and troubleshoot the components of a video on demand StreamLiner cluster.
PREREQUISITES: Basic knowledge of Ethernet, TCP/IP, MPEG-2, computer applications and video systems are recommended.

COURSE: NMX Operation Training View Class Description
OBJECTIVES: This course is an overview of NMX where the student will learn how to monitor, operate, and troubleshoot the Harmonic digital video compression system. You will learn how to navigate the various sections of NMX by building a basic compression system. The course also includes training on NMX administration, Automation Server, redundancy and troubleshooting.

PREREQUISITES: While no prior knowledge of Harmonic equipment is required for this class, a basic knowledge of Ethernet, TCP/IP, MPEG-2 and video systems would be helpful. Harmonic strongly recommends you complete a basic networking course prior to attending this class.

COURSE: System Optimization Training Course View Class Description
OBJECTIVES: This advanced NMX training course teaches you how to optimize an Harmonic digital compression system for optimum quality and bandwidth efficiency. Here you will learn details of subjects such as Statistical Multiplexing, Group of Pictures (GOP) and filter settings. You will work with a real system with plenty of hands-on time to refine your understanding of system optimization.

PREREQUISITES: You must be familiar with NMX and Harmonic compression systems. Ideally, you have successfully completed the NMX Operations Training course and have experience working with Harmonic systems.

COURSE: Conditional Access Systems and NMX View Class Description
OBJECTIVES: The course is an advanced training course that teaches you how to integrate an Harmonic digital compression system with a Conditional Access System (CAS).
This course includes an overview of a CAS system and lab work where you will use a live system to scramble a transport stream.

PREREQUISITES: This course is designed for the experienced NMX user; you must be familiar with NMX and Harmonic compression systems. Ideally you have successfully completed the NMX System Operations and Troubleshooting course and have experience working with the Harmonic systems. It is helpful if you are familiar with conditional access systems.
